Tesla Driver Profiles

Tesla Driver Profiles

Tesla driver profiles offer you the ability to save your Tesla’s personal settings within your account. In this article, you'll learn how to make the most of this handy feature.

What are Tesla Driver Profiles?

Tesla driver profiles allow you to save your preferred settings in your Tesla Model 3 or Model Y. These profiles include a variety of settings such as seat position, steering wheel adjustment, or mirror settings. Software configurations are also saved in Tesla driver profiles.

The big advantage is that when you open the door using the Tesla App, the vehicle recognizes you as the driver and automatically adjusts the seat position and other settings. So, even if you’re a 6’3” man sharing the car with a 5’3” woman, you won’t face any entry issues. The seat and steering wheel automatically adjust to the correct position.

According to Tesla, you can currently save up to 10 driver profiles per vehicle. Multiple keys can be linked to a driver (or a driver profile), but multiple driver profiles cannot be linked to a single Tesla key.

How to Set Up a Tesla Driver Profile

Setting up a driver profile is simple. Follow this step-by-step guide to quickly create your individual profile:

  1. Set up the Tesla Phone Key and Driver Profile (if not already done)

  2. Get into the Model Y or 3 and select the driver profile (at the top center of the screen)

  3. Adjust all desired settings (seat position, steering wheel height, mirrors, etc.)

  4. Save: If you slightly move the seat forward or backward, a "Save" button will appear at the top center of the screen. Tap it, and all current settings will be saved to your driver profile.

You can adjust your Tesla driver profile as often as you like. If you forget a setting, just change it (like the seat position) and hit save again. All settings will be stored in your Tesla driver account. The driver profile settings are not just tied to your vehicle but can also be used in other Tesla vehicles through the app.

Benefits of Tesla Driver Profiles

Driver profiles are a total comfort feature from Tesla. As you approach your Tesla, it recognizes via Bluetooth that you’re nearby, unlocks automatically, and when you open the door, everything adjusts like magic. You just have to hop in and relax.

No more squeezing into the vehicle because your shorter partner moved the seat all the way forward. All your driver profile settings are saved in the Tesla app, and the data is automatically sent to your Tesla, which takes care of the rest.

Another major advantage of driver profiles is that the data is stored in the cloud, allowing you to use your driver profile settings across multiple vehicles. As soon as someone grants you driver permissions through the app, you can also save your driver profile there.

But driver profiles aren’t just for comfortable seating. They can also be handy when you need to move the seat forward to fold down the rear seat. Simply create a new profile named "Loading," move the seat forward far enough, fold down the rear seat, and tap save. Next time, select the profile, and the seat moves forward automatically so you can fold down the seat.

You can also save a camping profile or one for watching movies comfortably, benefiting from the secure settings.

What is the "Easy Entry" Driver Profile?

The Easy Entry Driver Profile is a special feature in Tesla that makes getting in and out of the car more comfortable. When the Easy Entry profile is activated, the driver’s seat moves all the way back and the steering wheel moves forward. This greatly eases entry and exit in Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

Note: The seat doesn’t have a sensor to detect if something is behind it. If someone is sitting behind, the seat moving back could cause pinching.

What is the Valet Mode Driver Profile?

The Valet Mode Driver Profile limits the speed, acceleration, and restricts certain functions of your Model Y. It’s a special case among driver profiles and can also be activated via the Tesla app. Learn more about the Tesla Valet Mode here.

How to Link a Tesla Key to a Driver Profile

If you want to link a new key such as a Key Card or a Tesla Ring to your driver profile, you just need to sit in the car, select the profile, and go to Vehicle -> Locks -> Keys, then tap on the desired key. Once the key is linked, the name of the driver profile will appear below.

What Data is Stored in a Tesla Driver Profile?

Not all settings in your Tesla’s software are saved in your driver profile. According to Tesla, the following are saved:

  • Steering wheel, mirror, and seat positions

  • Navigation settings

  • Temperature and climate settings

  • Lighting and display settings

  • Autopilot and driving settings

Future Developments and Updates for Tesla Driver Profiles

The future of Tesla driver profiles is promising. Soon, it may be possible to use profiles even in rental vehicles, as they are tied to the Tesla account and stored in the cloud. Another exciting future scenario is the integration of these profiles in robotaxis, taking personalization to a whole new level. This could include automatic music selection or even accessing all your accounts via the large screen in the robotaxi’s center.

Conclusion

Tesla driver profiles offer far more than just personalization options; they significantly enhance everyday comfort and flexibility. With a wide range of settings and features, the profiles support seamless customization in all driving areas. Future developments promise even more innovation and user-friendliness, making Tesla ownership even more appealing. It’s a feature that elevates driving enjoyment and convenience in your Tesla to a new level.
