Setting up the Tesla Ring

Setting up the Tesla Ring

Driving a Tesla gives you access to a host of modern and innovative technologies. One that particularly stands out is the way you can unlock your Tesla. Arguably the most stylish way to do this is with the smart Tesla Ring.

This so-called "TEKEY" Tesla Ring, offered by Tesla Outfitters, serves as a key for the Model Y and Model 3. Although it is not an original Tesla product, a real Tesla chip is used in the ring, making it function like a Tesla key card.

You can learn how to connect the Tesla Ring and how it works in everyday use in this post.

Setting Up the Tesla Ring "TEKEY"

Setting up the Tesla Ring is very straightforward and follows the same process as setting up a Tesla key card. All you need is the ring and a Tesla key card that is already connected to your Tesla.

Vehicle Menu: Sit in your Tesla and open the vehicle menu. Then select "Locks" and tap on "Add Key" in the top right corner.

Add Tesla Ring Key

Place Ring: Now place the Tesla Ring on the center console behind the cup holder. Once you see confirmation on the screen that the ring has been recognized, proceed to the next step.

Reconnect Tesla Ring

Authentication: Confirm the setup of the ring with a Tesla key card that is set up for your Model 3 or Y. The ring is now activated as a vehicle key.

Using the Tesla Ring

Now that you have completed the setup, you can use the ring to unlock your Tesla Model Y, Model 3, or even 2024 Model 3 Highland, drive it, and lock it again. Here's how:

Unlocking

To unlock your vehicle, pull on the door handle once. This wakes it up from deep sleep. Then you can hold your hand with the ring to the B-pillar on the driver's side. The ring does not need direct contact with the glass. Instead, it works best if you hold your finger as shown in the following image against the sensor.

Correct Hand Position with Tesla Ring

Driving

If you want to start driving, simply touch the sensor directly behind the cup holder on the center console with your hand while pressing the brake pedal. Since this sensor is much more sensitive, the position of your hand is not crucial. Now you can select the gear and drive off.

Locking

To lock your Model 3 or Model Y with the Tesla Ring, simply hold the ring to the B-pillar on the driver's side, just like when unlocking.

Deleting the Tesla Ring Key

If you want to transfer your Tesla Ring to a new car, or if you are giving it away or selling it, you can easily delete it from your Tesla. Here's how:

Vehicle Menu: Sit in your Tesla and open the vehicle menu. Then select "Locks". Here you can then select the ring. Tap on the three dots and then on remove.

Remove Tesla Ring

Authentication: Now confirm the removal of the ring with a Tesla key card that is set up for your Model 3 or Y. The ring is now removed as a vehicle key.
